Electric Power R/C Aircraft Plans and Software

Need help choosing a power system for your electric model airplane?

PowerCalc helps you select the best electric motor, battery pack, speed controller and prop combination for your electric R/C aircraft! PowerCalc will tell you everything you need to know: Amps, Volts, Watts, RPM, Thrust, Motor Efficiency, Estimated Airspeed, Stall Speed and much more!

Software Features
  • Use PowerCalc to estimate the performance of proposed power system for your electric R/C aircraft. Simply select a battery system, motor type, speed controller and propeller. PowerCalc calculates the projected output of the selected components and reports on a number of critical factors esential to successful electric powered model aircraft.
  • Select power system components from easy-to-use dropdown list containing 100's of readily available manufactured items.
    • 120+ battery types
    • 1300+ electric motors
    • 120+ speed controllers
    • Propeller type
    • Your Aircraft
  • All component data is stored in a Microsoft Access™ database. Power system components can easily be ADDED, EDITED or REMOVED using the Add/Edit components button. Updates to the components database can be downloaded as updates become available.
  • Specify details about your own electric R/C aircraft to get aircraft performance estimates including projected stall speed, wing and power loading.
  • Specify local atmospheric conditions for your flying site such as altitude and temperature to include in the performance calculations.
  • PowerCalc uses the data associated with the selections you make to calculate performance details.
    • Battery Pack Capacity and output volts
    • Motor Amps
    • Motor Volts
    • Motor RPM
    • Input watts to motor
    • Output watts
    • Motor Efficiency
    • Motor performance at Maximum efficiency (volts, amps, input watts, output watts)
    • Propeller Results (prop RPM, static thrust, in-flight thrust, pitch speed)
    • Aircraft Performance (Wing loading, power loading, estimate stall speed, airspeed and flight duration)
  • Use the Throttle Slider to see the performance of the selected power system at various throttle settings
  • Store calculated results for comparison. You can store up to 10 different power system comparisons and display calculated data in a datagrid.
  • Display bar graphs of power system comparisons for specific values like motor amps, static thrust, output watts, rpm, flight duration, airspeed etc. by simply select a graph type from a dropdown list.
  • Export comparison data to a comma separated text file (cvs) for import into Excell.
  • Generate performance data based on throttle settings from 0 to 100%. Performance data displays in a datagrid.
  • Export performance data to a comma separated text file (cvs) for import into Excell.
  • Display performance graphs from generated data by simply selecting a graph type from a drop down list.
  • Print PowerCalc data
  • Maintain your own list of aircraft by using the add/edit data button. Store aircraft by name and associated airframe weight, wingspan, wing area.

Compare Power System

PowerCalc can store 10 different power system setups for comparison. Just click the Store Results button and all of the data associated with your selections will be stored in PowerCalc memory. View the comparison data by clicking the Compare Results button. The data for the stored results is displayed in a datagrid. View comparison data on motor amps, volts, watts in, watts out, static thrust, flight thrust, airspeed duration etc to easily see how different combinations of components will perform.

Chart Comparison Values

Comparison bar chart Display bar graphs of power system comparisons for specific values like motor amps, static thrust, output watts, rpm, flight duration, airspeed etc. by simply select a graph type from a dropdown list.

Export comparison data to a comma separated text file (cvs) for import into Excell.

Generate Performance Data

Generate performance data based on throttle settings from 0 to 100%. Performance data displays in a datagrid. You can then scroll through the data grid to compare calculated data at the various power system/throttle settings. The 100 lines of data can be exported to a comma separated text file (cvs) for import into Excell or similar spreadsheet software. Use the 3rd party software to format and optionally print the performance data.

Graph Performance Data

Display performance graphs from generated data by simply selecting a graph type from a drop down list. Available graphs include:

  • Motor Amps - Airspeed - Static Thrust
  • Duration - Airspeed - Watts Out
  • Motor Efficiency - Airspeed - Motor Amps

PowerCalc Data

Create and maintain your own list of aircraft to use in PowerCalc. Just click the Add/edit data button to bring up a dropdown list and values for your aircraft. Add new aircraft and associated data including aircraft name, wingspan, wing area and airframe weight. When doing a PowerCalc power system calculation select the desired aircraft from the main program screen. PowerCalc will compute wing loading, powerloading estimated stall and maximum airspeed values. You'll also get an estimate of flight duration for this model when equipped with the selected power system components.

All PowerCalc component data is stored in a Microsoft Access™ database. You can ADD, EDIT or REMOVE components from the database using the convenient Add/Edit Data button on the main interface. Component database updates can also be downloaded from the PowerCalc web site when updates are published.
