Fuselage Construction Part 2

J2M3 Fuselage Construction plan
The fuselage is as series of 1/16" ply and balsa formers held together with 3/32"x3/16" stringers and a 1/16" balsa skin. The fuselage is assembled over a removable internal jig.

Fuselage construction continues by adding the long 3/32"x3/16" stringers down the side of the fuselage. Carefully align the aft formers to be 90 degrees to the building board and jig as you glue the stringers in place. Add the two side stringer from F2 to F11 working alternately on each side.
A close-up view of the forward part of the fuselage with the side stringers being glued to the formers.
A view looking down the fuselage assembly from the nose to the tail.
Next we add the 1/16" balsa cockpit floor between F6 and F8.
Add two additional side stringers from F2 to F10 on the upper quarter of the formers.
Another view of the starboard size of the fuselage with the 3/32"x3/16" stringers attached. Also note that a 1/8" square stringer has been added to the top of the aft formers F8, F9 and F10.

The horizontal and vertical stabilers are shown in this photo just for reference. They are NOT glued in place at this time. At this point the top half of the fuselage frame is done and we are ready to lift the assembly off the support blocks and add strings to the aft underside of the fuselage. Click photo for larger image
