Polikarpov I-16 Type 24 "Rata"

Fuselage Construction - Part 5

The top half of the fuselage sheetign is being added in four pieces. Here is the top left side cut and ready to glue to the frame. The sheet has been soaked with hot water to aid in forming to the fuse frame.
The sheet is first glued to the side stringer and to the edge of the lower sheet.
The sheet is then gently wrapped around the fuselage frame and glued with thin CA.
A view of the opposite side of the fuselage with the left top sheet in place.
The right rear piece of sheeting has been cut to shape. A 3/16" wide "doubler" has been glued to the back side of F5 (cockpit/turtle deck former) to give bearing surface to the right rear sheet.
This photo shows the right rear sheet in place and the tail assembly sitting on the frame. At this point the inner fuselage jig is pulled out of the fuselage frame.
